A Christmas Eve Poem

'Twas the night before Christmas when all though Family Cakes,
Not a baker was stirring, not even for his mates.
The stockings were hung by the oven with care,
In hopes that Vincenzo soon would be there.

The employees were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of mince pies danced through their head.
When out in the kitchen there rose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.

When what should I see that surely wasn't fake,
But a miniature pie and eight tiny cupcakes.
With a little old baker, so lively making flan,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Dan.

More rapid than a factory, muffins he made,
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name,
Now RAISIN, now STRAWBERRY, now CARROT and BLUEBERRY,
On CHOCOLATE, on RASPBERRY, on BANANA and CHERRY!

A bundle of ingredients he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.
But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight.
"MERRY CAKES-MAS TO ALL! AND TO ALL, A GOOD BITE!"

Merry Christmas from all of us here at Family Cakes

An American Sweet

Our next recipe comes from our American intern, Michael.  He wanted to share with you a delicacy called "Puppy Chow."  Despite the name, this is NOT for dogs whatsoever.  It is a tasty treat most popular in the American Midwest like in Michael's home state of Minnesota. It is a great snack for kids to help mum or dad make because it's quick and simple.  Here's Michael's recipe for traditional Puppy Chow.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 9 cups malted wheat cereal
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
Method:
Combine the peanut butter, butter, and chocolate chips in  microwave safe bowl.
Microwave for one minute then stir together thoroughly.
Add vanilla and stir well.
Place the 9 cups of cereal in a very large, separate bowl.
Pour the peanut butter-chocolate mixture over the cereal and toss evenly, making sure all the cereal gets a good covering.
Place the powdered sugar in a large zip-lock like plastic bag.
Add the peanut butter-chocolate-cereal mixture into the bag about 3/4 full.  (You may need to split up the total amount into smaller batches)
Shake the bag vigorously to evenly coat each cereal piece in powdered sugar.
Place in a large serving bowl and place in the refrigerator for a few hours.
Enjoy the deliciousness!

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter comes to edible life at FCC! Our witch Anna and wizard Vincenzo have worked their magic transforming J.K. Rowling's hugely popular series in a fantastic cake!  They've conjured up some of their bakery potions in Professor Daniel's class to make this as sweet as anything you would find at Honeyduke's Sweets Shop. Fly around chasing the snitch on the Quidditch pitch or learn how to fight off the Dark Lord in a Defense Against the Dark Arts book. And let the sorting hat tell you which slice to eat first!
