An American Sweet

Our next recipe comes from our American intern, Michael.  He wanted to share with you a delicacy called "Puppy Chow."  Despite the name, this is NOT for dogs whatsoever.  It is a tasty treat most popular in the American Midwest like in Michael's home state of Minnesota. It is a great snack for kids to help mum or dad make because it's quick and simple.  Here's Michael's recipe for traditional Puppy Chow.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 9 cups malted wheat cereal
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
Method:
Combine the peanut butter, butter, and chocolate chips in  microwave safe bowl.
Microwave for one minute then stir together thoroughly.
Add vanilla and stir well.
Place the 9 cups of cereal in a very large, separate bowl.
Pour the peanut butter-chocolate mixture over the cereal and toss evenly, making sure all the cereal gets a good covering.
Place the powdered sugar in a large zip-lock like plastic bag.
Add the peanut butter-chocolate-cereal mixture into the bag about 3/4 full.  (You may need to split up the total amount into smaller batches)
Shake the bag vigorously to evenly coat each cereal piece in powdered sugar.
Place in a large serving bowl and place in the refrigerator for a few hours.
Enjoy the deliciousness!
